Where there is life, there is death, and where their is death, there is undeath. Although the dead rising is a phenomena most every world will have to deal with at some point, the source of outbreaks are varied. There are a number of entities that covet flesh, from viruses to demons to fungi and spirits, and of course malevolent forces with access to necromancy. With the right strain or mixture, nearly any physical body can be converted into a zombie, where their only instinct is to feed and spread the affliction. They tend to form massive hordes and individuals can evolve into other undead subtypes if certain criteria are met, ie: the right flesh is consumed, or time served to the cause.
