Metropolis. Gotham. NYC. When we think of stories about superheroes defending the world from a global invasion, the story most often focuses on major metropolitan areas, but what about the surrounding, less dense territories? Are they ignored or is it presumed they have already been stomped flat?

Hellkite: Year Zero is the first book in a series of novelettes (approx. 23,000 words) that tell the story of a hero activated in a rural community where creatures made from the collective fears of those nearby have only just begun to manifest. While most of his kind battle among skyscrapers to defend innocents by the millions, Hellkite serves his function in his rural hometown where collateral damage will be more than just faces in the crowd.
